Out went the wall to wall carpet and in went vinyl plank flooring with the look of wood but much more durable and waterproof. The walls were turned from avocado green to sandstone cove. So transforming and really brightened up the space. I kept my Mom’s lighthouse art collection and the coffee table my Dad made and added in a modern couch and floor lamp from West Elm and fun orange chairs from Target. The vintage pillow on the couch is from the 1930's and adds a nice beachy vibe.
I needed a simple backsplash solution for the kitchen and decided on chalkboard paint. I love the contrast with the white cabinets. It instantly makes the kitchen feel modern and happy and lends its self to creative expression. I know my nieces, nephew and all my artist friends will love to draw on it.
My Dad made the bench and my Mom made the mirror. A fresh coat of warm gray paint was added to the bench to tie in the room's color palette. Thanks to my friend Laura for the suggestion and hard work. She also painted the front door a beautiful shade of gold which unfortunately I was not able to get a good picture of. The beach bag is a very cool find from Target.

For the master bedroom I was excited to find another beach vintage pillow this one with a miniature golf scene at a local antique store. I kept my moms quilt at the bottom of the bed and added fun wavy West Elm curtains.
Of course with a beach house you need seashell lamps and accessories.
For the guest room I hit the motherload at homegoods for pillows and I made the curtains from Lotta Jansdotter fabric. This room I lovingly call Margot's room since I coerced her into painting it.
The seagull painting was found in the back shed. The original owner who built the house in the 1950’s painted it. Interestingly his last name was Tripp which is the same as my husband's great-grandfather. A relative? Perhaps.
I love souvenir glasses. They were popular in the 1950’s. This one is a fun reproduction and adds some whimsy to the bathroom.

It was sad to close up the house last weekend for the winter. The official end of summer for me. But I look forward to many more summers to come up in Maine with family and friends. Thanks Mom and Dad for this wonderful gift.
